Further enhancing his expertise, he undertook a fellowship in advanced dermatologic and Mohs surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Swanson’s career highlights include leadership roles at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he served as Chair of the Department of Dermatology, Associate Director for Clinical Operations at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, and Professor of Dermatology, Otolaryngology, and Surgery. Prior to joining OHSU, Dr. Swanson directed the surgical unit and Multidisciplinary Melanoma Program at the University of Michigan.

Board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Swanson is a distinguished member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation. With a specialization in treating challenging skin cancer cases through Mohs surgery, his influence extends worldwide. Over the years, Dr. Swanson has mentored 35 fellows, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions in both academic and clinical settings.

An accomplished author and international lecturer, Dr. Swanson has penned over 200 journal articles, authored multiple textbooks, and contributed extensively to textbook chapters. Beyond his work in skin cancer treatment, he is highly skilled in cosmetic dermatology procedures, including laser surgery, dermabrasion, chemical peels, filler injections, and Botox.

Residing in Missoula, MT, Dr. Swanson embraces the serenity of country living. When not advancing the field of dermatology, he enjoys western riding, golfing, fishing, and spending quality time with his five grandchildren and their families.
